Everyone wants to be part of a vibrant, prosperous, healthy, and welcoming community.
One of the most effective ways to achieve these goals is by getting citizens out into their communities. This can take many forms, from shopping along Main Street and playing at the local school playground to jogging through the neighborhood or attending a community event at the park. Communities need safe and accessible opportunities to walk and bike. For example, families are more likely to visit a playground on a weekend afternoon if they can walk there safely. Shoppers tend to spend more time and money on Main Street when they can park once and enjoy a pedestrian-friendly environment. The PARTNER Toolkit presents a step-by-step process for improving active travel. It includes a variety of interactive activities you can share with your community, use to summarize your thoughts, or follow to guide decision-making. It does not require any background in active transportation and is specifically designed for communities without much expertise in active travel. The toolkit is flexible so it can be used in planning for an entire community, a region within a community, a neighborhood, a corridor, a school, or even a Main Street. You may also follow each step to build your action plan or use just part of a step to support community outreach. |
